@spadidah – Congratulations on your award – I am so proud of you xx
From Dancing through the Fire – May 2012
The Potting Shed Spa aims to break the boundaries of what people expect from spas with their environment and service making the overall experience unforgettable. The spa is situated in the unique Redbrick Mill in Batley, West Yorkshire, and is an amazing space full of quirky decorations, bunting and fairy lights…
The spa put on a lovely event, with champagne and canapés on tap, and a lovely team who made sure everyone was enjoying themselves. I really enjoyed learning about the services, and sampling a few products, and would recommend the spa to anyone looking for something a bit different.
From Indulge In – May 2012
The Potting Shed smells so delightful and hides so many treats. With treatments available such as ‘Lady Garden – Border Only’ (bikini wax to you and me), we were more than a little bit intrigued.
We were pounced on, in a very nice way, by a member of the delightful salon staff as soon as we entered. A glass of bubbly was forced in each of our hands (OK…we didn’t need much persuading) and we were shown to one of the very large and oh so comfy seats to be pampered and pruned by Kirstie Allen – Owner and Founder of Pinks Boutique…
…We found ourselves sinking further and further into the big cream arm-chairs . Cuticle oil was applied followed by Hand Balm. To complete, nails were ‘buffed’ using the miracle buffer, which leaves nails with a natural shine, no polish is required.
Its hardly surprising that The Potting Shed, after only 9 months has been crowned Best British Salon at the Professional Beauty & World Spa Awards 2012. Well done girls.
From Beauty Butterfly Blog – May 2012.
It’s such a refreshing change to see some proper professionalism in a beauty salon, the ladies in the spa really seemed to be enjoying what they were doing…
…The Potting Shed won Best British Salon at this years Pro Beauty Awards so I was expecting great things; and they definitely didn’t disappoint!
The interior decoration really is wonderful, so welcoming and so Yorkshire! Watering cans, gnomes, plants… everything you’d expect to find in a gardening environment but in a really clean and fresh way.
…no word of a lie this was the best manicure I have ever had in my life and I cannot thank the Potting Shed enough, I will definately be going back for some treatments here because it’s the best salon/spa experience I’ve ever had. I’m also keen to try their day spa, Eastthorpe Hall which should be absolutely fantastic if this is anything to go by.
From Yummy Working Mummy – March 2012
The ethos of The Potting Shed is to provide first class treatments in a relaxed and informal setting… …From the moment I arrived at The Potting Shed Spa I knew I was in for a real treat
I was whisked away to the peace and tranquility of the treatment room, and snuggled into my treatment bed, I was even given a hot water bottle for maximum comfort. I had the Potting Shed signature facial – awarded ‘Best facial in the UK – May 2011’.
The blend of complete relaxation combined with a maintenance facial leaves you feeling like you’ve been really pampered and had deep relaxation. I really could have stayed all day!
This is an amazing place and perfect for ladies either wanting maintenance treatments in real comfort or like me wanting a pamper treatment of a Spa but haven’t the time for a full day.
From Michelle, April 2012

The Potting Shed and Easthorpe are my ‘not so guilty’ pleasures and I love recommending you to my nearest and dearest because I know they they will think so too.

Customer First…
Being a busy working mum, its really a struggle to put yourself first.
I’ve always enjoyed a full life, but the last year has seen very little time for “me” time. It was therefore a delight to get a little bit of my sunday in the Potting Shed Spa yesterday. Before any of you tune out – this is a blog about customer service – not nail varnish – so read on.
The new venture at RedBrick Mills part of the Easthorpe Spa Group is a light, bright day spa with a difference.
Retail theatre runs though the building with “potter” dressed therapists. The ambiance is more refreshing and uplifting than traditional spa’s.
Best of all for me – Sunday opening. I was delighted that one of the very best (award winning) spas has always only been a short distance from me – but its traditional opening hours and (understandably) no phone policy made the commitment to time an impossibility. Potting Shed shows a real understanding of busy lives.
Additionally the incredibly friendly staff, the most intuitive and professional therapist – Faye – who has always treated me at Easthorpe, and a great set of cute differences (your own retro tv when you have a pedicure to enjoy the dvd of your choice) saw me rebook immediately.
They have thought about the customer, put their needs first and made it happen…and that’s why I’m delighted to tell you that the Potting Shed will be the very first recipient of our Customer First Awards (launched 1st September).
My hearty congratulations to Faye and all the team there – carry on doing what you’re doing so well.

Potty about spa! Eastthorpe Hall’s new spa venture
The lovely folks at Eastthorpe Hall got in touch recently to let us know about their newest venture – The Potting Shed. A sister spa to their multi-award winning day spa in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, The Potting Shed in nearby Batley is offering a range of treatments to give spa-goers a taste of Eastthorpe in a boutique environment.
Apparently, everything in The Potting Shed is for sale – from the products your therapist uses to garden gnomes!
Of particular note is the mani-pedi area, which is furnished with individual televisions and headphones so you can “plug in and zone out”.
The Potting Shed assures us that they have developed a space far from the clinical white of a mainstream spa. Breaking the boundaries of what you’d expect from a spa experience, The Potting Shed tell us that they “have strong beliefs and work our socks off to ensure your experience in our spa is an unforgettable one”.
If The Potting Shed is anything like the award-winning Eastthorpe Hall, we’re certain this new venture should be high on your to-visit list – we can’t wait to go!
A spa that sparkles
Late afternoon it was off down the road to boutique day spa The Potting Shed for some champagne and finishing touches. Innovatively designed in the style of a gardener’s retreat, the rustic spa has a real sense of escapism, with quirky, decorative items such as gnomes and gardening tools taking pride of place alongside a huge array of beauty products. In keeping with the horticultural theme is the treatment menu; ‘Scythes and Shears’ represent signature manicure/pedicure options whilst ‘Pruning and clipping neglected hedges’ refers to waxing treatments.
Our day concluded with lovely nails inc mani-pedi’s. Lying back and relaxing, we enjoyed some episodes of FRIENDS that were being screened on small individual televisions complete with headphones – the perfect way to zone out and enjoy the pampering! Feeling very chilled I realised that The Potting Shed, totally unique in style and approach, would undoubtedly be the perfect choice for a hen party or group birthday celebration.
From Diary of a Yorkshire Girl
Yorkshire Girl Reviews: The Potting Shed Spa…
The ethos of the Potting Shed is to provide first class treatments in a more relaxed and informal setting than that of Eastthorpe Hall. Situated centrally to Batley in the old Redbrick Mill building, the team worked tirelessly to create a unique and quirky style reflecting the identity of this new venture… what was previously used as an industrial unit has been transformed into a gorgeous space full of individual features, bespoke furniture (available to purchase by order) and with the utmost attention to detail. Perfect for day visits or to follow a girl’s lunch date and shopping trip, it is fun and relaxed, yet with the same standard of excellence expected by their loyal customers.
Following the formalities I was whisked away to de-robe and settle myself on the table for my first treat of the day. I have to mention that aside from the silence (and by silence I mean pin-drop) there is such a sense of calm and peace that it would be impossible not to feel relaxed and chilled as one prepares to be pampered. I am always the first to feel the cold and have lost count of the occasions I have been forced to request either more blankets or heating. Not so here, each room was toasty and cosy, sweet smelling and spotless…
(And about our sister spa, Eastthorpe Hall) – So, having been whisked away from The Potting Shed I am driven a short distance to Eastthorpe Hall where I am to lunch and experience life on the ‘other’ side. As the door swings wide open and a beaming Steph ushers me in, the first thing I notice is the quiet.
It is impossible not to feel the stresses of day to day craziness fall away as you step into the sumptuous wood panelled surroundings and I am sure the doorstep is laden heavy with the worries left there routinely by clients before their entering in.
We are served a freshly made lunch of locally sourced ingredients with each dish introduced by the chef and ingredients explained for their various health giving qualities.
As we enjoy the stunning gardens and warm weather, we chat and devour the delicious food whilst quaffing crisp champagne. I discover almost everyone else there that day is a regular visitor, and all have high praise indeed for the spa, the staff and the standards of service.
Put simply, there are people who run spas, and there are people who run spas, and then there are Stephanie and Sam.

Spa has pots of potential …
A quirky new health and beauty spa opened at Batley’s Redbrick Mill this week.
The team behind Mirfield’s multi-award winning Eastthorpe Hall holistic spa have transformed a former hot tub store at the shopping mill into The Potting Shed, an exclusive salon specialising in quick-fix essentials such as waxing and manicures.
The Potting Shed is decked out, funnily enough, to resemble a potting shed with plant pots and watering cans on the shelves sprouting seedlings – and a treatment menu to fit.
Signature treatments include the “Scythes and Shears” manicure and waxing that promises to ‘prune and clip neglected hedges’.
Eastthorpe Hall, on Huddersfield Road in Mirfield, is officially the UK’s number one day spa and some of their signature treatments are available in their new environment at Redbrick, which opens to the public today (Fri).
Business partner Sam Pearce said: “It’s a totally different concept to Eastthorpe. At The Potting Shed attention to detail and timing are all-important and we’re using key members of Eastthorpe staff who suit a salon environment.
“We’re aiming for a tongue-in-cheek, eclectic feel and we’re really excited with what we’ve achieved.”The Potting Shed is kitted out with two treatment rooms, four manicure/pedicure stations, a large waiting area with flat screen TVs and clients can enjoy cocktails and music through individual headphones while being preened and pampered.
“We wanted to create an environment like no other spa, where people can come and relax at a time and place that’s convenient for them,” Sam continued.
Easthorpe is now the highest-accredited day spa in the country and Sam says that the business has coped well since the economic downturn, with the company recently taking on more staff. “We haven’t panicked and done anything rash,” she said. “We’ve ridden it out because we know what we offer is a luxury, but people are finding that coping with stress is important.”The Potting Shed held a special launch event for 150 VIP guests last night (Thurs).

Eastthorpe Hall to open second spa
Professional Beauty Award-winning day spa Eastthorpe Hall is preparing to launch a second site in nearby Leeds.
The Potting Shed is scheduled to open in early June in Leeds’s Redbrick shopping centre.
Unlike Mirfield-based Eastthorpe Hall, which won PB’s Day Spa of the Year 2011 award in February, The Potting Shed will be a salon specialising in quick-fix essentials such as waxing and manicures, although some of the signature treatments from Eastthorpe will be adapted for the salon.
The salon will house two treatment rooms with face and body treatments using Elemis and Lava Shells, four mani/pedi stations and a large waiting area.
It will be decked out like a potting shed with plant pots and watering cans on the shelves sprouting seedlings and a treatment menu to fit. Signature treatments will include the Scythes and Shears manicure and waxing the promises to “prune and clip neglected hedges” with treatments including “Lady Garden, Borders Only”
Owner Sam Pearce said: “We’re aiming for a tongue-in-cheek, eclectic feel. Our gift vouchers will be called Hedge Funds and we’ll have a kids’ menu called saplings and seedlings.”
